Traineeships
What is a Traineeship?
A traineeship is a course with work experience that helps you prepare to move into work or an apprenticeship. Traineeships can last from 6 weeks up to 1 year, though most traineeships last for less than 6 months.
Who can do a Traineeship?
You can apply to do a traineeship if you’re:
- eligible to work in England
- unemployed and have little or no work experience
- aged 16 to 24 (or 25 if you have an EHCP) and qualified up to and including Level 3 (equivalent to A Level).
- Some providers may have other specific criteria, so always check
What does a Traineeship involve?
A traineeship programme will help you develop the skills you need to find work, including CV writing, job searching and interview preparation.
You will also complete a work placement of 70 hours or more. You won’t be paid on this placement, but you’ll be gaining skills, experience and confidence.
As well as this, you’ll also get help to develop the sector-specific skills you need for the jobs or apprenticeships you’re looking for.
If you need it, help will also be provided with English, Maths and Digital Skills. Some providers will require you to complete functional skills alongside your traineeship if you don’t already have them.
